CONTRIBUTOR: H.C Fritts, LTRR, University of Arizona NAME OF DATA SET: Large Scale Climate Reconstructions from Tree-Rings IGBP PAGES/WDCA CONTRIBUTION SERIES NUMBER: 91-011 SUGGESTED DATA CITATION: Fritts, H.C., 1991, Large Scale Climate Reconstructions from Tree-Rings. International Tree-Ring Data Bank. IGBP PAGES/World Data Center-A for Paleoclimatology Data Contribution Series #91-011. NOAA/NGDC Paleoclimatology Program, Boulder CO, USA. LAST UPDATE: 11/91 GEOGRAPHIC REGION: North America PERIOD OF RECORD: 1602 A.D. - 1960 A.D. LIST OF FILES: Readme, Program.zip (contains 10 display software program files), 20 R*.dat files of precipitation reconstructions, 20 T*.dat data files of temperature reconstructions. The program files have been compressed using the utility PKZIP, and must be expanded before use. Two versions of the DOS display program DIFMAP are in the file; if your PC is a 386 or lower and lacks a math coprocessor, type NOCOPRO to make the non-coprocessor version active. DESCRIPTION: This data set contains files of reconstructed temperature and precipitation data, derived from tree ring data by Dr. Harold Fritts of the University of Arizona. The reconstructions were made for a network of weather observation stations in the United States. For a discussion of the methodology of climate reconstructions, and potential limits in their application, please consult the original reference. The data are accompanied by DOS display software. The DIFMAP program opens the data files and creates maps of reconstructed temperature or precipitation patterns, either on screen or as a printer file. The program SERIES displays reconstructed values for a single location, as a graph or a numerical table. Documentation for the programs is in the files MANUAL.DOC and SERIES.DOC.
