Data Set Description: This is a subset of the Deep Sea Coral Research and Technology Program’s National Database. The data represnt still photo observations of corals and sponges from a broad-scale characterization of deep-sea coral/sponge habitats and communities in Bodega Canyon and a site southwest of Cordell Bank conducted during August 2011 using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). This project was carried out as a joint effort between staff from NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary. The goal of this study was to provide information regarding this unexplored canyon system to compare with other well-studied canyons in the region. Data were used to inform decisions on sanctuary expansion. Changes to the original dataset may have been made to conform to the National Database Schema and for quality control purposes. The data are part of the West Coast Deep-Sea Coral Initiative of NOAA’s Deep Sea Coral Research & Technology Program.
