NOAA JPSS Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Cloud Optical Thickness (COT) Environmental Data Record (EDR) from IDPS
VIIRS-COT-EDR
This dataset contains a high quality operational Environmental Data Record (EDR) of Cloud Optical Thickness (COT) from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) onboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and is produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). The EDR utilizes VIIRS brightness temperatures and reflectances. Inputs required to develop the COT algorithm include other VIIRS derived products such as cloud mask, surface albedo, and surface type, and scenario parameters such as sun-sensor geometry. The spectral bands of 0.672, 1.24, and 1.61 micon are used to retrieve daytime COT. During nighttime passes the spectral bands of 3.7, 8.55, 10.7625, and 12.013 micron are used. The EDR provides global coverage approximately every 12 hours. By default, IDPS VIIRS COT data obtained from the Comprehensive Large-Array Stewardship System (CLASS) are distributed in four aggregated 86-second granules in Hierarchical Data Format v.5 (HDF5) with metadata attributes included.
