The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: NODC Standard Product: Global ocean temperature and salinity profiles (2 disc set) (NCEI Accession 0098058)
Abstract: This set of CD-ROMs contains global ocean temperature and salinity profiles derived from National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) archive data files. It includes oceanographic station (bottle) data, CTD/STD data, and mechanical and expendable bathythermograph data. The data span the period from 1900 to 1990. Disc 1 contains 1.62 million profiles from the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Disc 2 contains 1.57 million profiles from the Pacific Ocean. The data are in an ASCII format.

More recent ocean temperature and salinity profile data (including data on these discs) are available in the NCEI World Ocean Database.

Supplementary information: The contents of these discs are available as 1) a compressed .tar file via the download data button (download size limit may prevent obtaining all data in one transaction); 2) a complete ISO 9660 disc image, from which an identical replica of the original disc may be burned on new CD/DVD media, by navigating to the .iso file in the data/0-data/disc_image/ subdirectory; 3) individual files, by navigating to specific file(s) in the data/0-data/disc_contents/ subdirectory.

Data access and display software developed by NODC for these discs is obsolete, does not function on modern operating systems, and is no longer available.
