The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: | NOAA Coastal Services Center Coastal Remote Sensing Program C-CAP (NOAA Coastal Change Analysis Program) Benthic Habitat Data, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Washington, 1991-2000 (NODC Accession 0001045) |
Abstract: | These data are GIS (Arcview shapefiles and associated Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata) benthic classification files from Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) studies conducted in specific locations in Delaware, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, North Carolina and Washington state. Data were collected in partnership with the NOAA Coastal Services Center following the guidelines detailed by the NOAA Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP). Each state's data is held in a separate subdirectory within this dataset. These GIS benthic classification data vary depending on the purpose of the study for each state as follows - Delaware, benthic cover in Rehoboth Bay (point data) with focus on genus Ulva macroalgae, Florida, benthic coverage data from aerial photography (polygons) for Florida Bay and Indian River, Maine, mapping SAV beds with focus on eelgrass meadows (polygons from aerial photography), Massachusetts, mapping SAV beds with focus on Zostera marina (polygons from aerial photography), North Carolina, baseline of SAV data for Bogue Sound (polygons from aerial photography), Washington, benthic habitat and seagrass distribution (Zostera japonica and invasive Spartina alterniflora) from aerial photography (polygons) for Willapa Bay. Each set of benthic data was classified according to protocols described in the associated FGDC metadata (.met file) for each state. |

Supplementary information: | Time period of content dates for specific state subdirectories are - Delaware, 2000, Florida, 1991-95 (Florida Bay) and 1996-99 (Indian River), Massachusetts, 1994-96, Maine, 1993-97, North Carolina, 1992, Washington, 1995. These files were produced to be utilized within GIS software and include shapefiles (.shp and associated .prj, .dbf, .shx and .sbn files) and FGDC metdata files (.met and related metadata parser error file .err). These data are the data shape files only and do not include any underlying regional or state outline base maps. It is suggested users be familiar with georeferencing and projecting data within a GIS when using these data for scientific purposes. |
