| Title: | Supporting data for Bird Observations from the Northeast Pacific (NEP) Northern California Current cruises on R/V New Horizon, NH0005 and NH0007, in 2000 (NEP project) (NCEI Accession 0113337) |
| Abstract: | This dataset contains meteorological data collected on R/V New Horizon during cruises NH0005 and NH0007 in the North Pacific Ocean from 2000-01-01 to 2000-12-31. These data include Speed over ground and wind_speed_kts. The instruments used to collect these data include Binoculars, Handheld. These data were collected by Dr David G. Ainley of H.T. Harvey & Associates and Dr Cynthia Tynan of Northwest Fisheries Science Center - Seattle as part of the "U.S. GLOBEC Northeast Pacific (NEP)" project and "U.S. GLOBal ocean ECosystems dynamics (U.S. GLOBEC)" program. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2023-01-23. The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO: Supporting data for Bird Obs from NEP NCC R/V New Horizon Dataset Description: GLOBEC NEP Northern California Current Bird Metadata R/V New Horizon cruises NH0005 and 0007 These data provide background environmental data in support of the bird data . Caution: Wind speed and direction may not be corrected for ship motion. Any questions about the data, please contact the PIs: David G. Ainley: Cyndy Tynan: Updated Sept 13, 2005; gfh |

| Supplementary information: | Acquisition Description: Seabird surveys were conducted continuously during daylight, using a 300-m-wide transect strip. Within that strip, birds were counted that occurred within the 90 degree quadrant off the ship's bow that offered the best observation conditions. In this accession, NCEI has archived multiple versions of these data. The latest (and best) version of these data has the largest version number. |
