The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. Title: Real-Time XBT data assembled by US NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) for the Global Temperature-Salinity Profile Programme (GTSPP) and submitted 2014-08-11 - 2014-08-17 (NCEI Accession 0122060)
Abstract: These data represent data collected from the Shipboard Environmental (data) Acquisition System (SEAS), a program developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide accurate meteorological and oceanographic data in real time from ships at sea through the use of satellite data transmission techniques. The system transmits data through either the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) or the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT C) satellites to NOAA for use in weather, climatological and ocean models. NOAA is actively participating in an international effort to increase the number of subsurface temperature observations in support of global oceanographic and climate studies. NOAA's Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) program, SEAS, currently supports about 80 Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS). SEAS XBT data are archived by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) on a weekly basis.

The NODC has determined that the name of the platform "NDCC ALTE SABOIA" as documented in the data files is incorrect. The data files document the platform name as "NDCC ALTE SABOIA" whilst the NODC has determined the correct platform name is "Almirante Saboia". The NODC has determined that the call sign for the platform "Almirante Saboia" as documented in the data files is incorrect. The data files document the call sign as "000" whilst the NODC has determined the correct call sign is "PWSB". The data files contained the Ship Name "NHoF Almirante Graça Aranha" (Call Sign "PWGA") which the NODC was unable to find in the ICES Platform Code Database. The NODC has determined that the call sign for the platform "Apa" as documented in the data files is incorrect. The data files document the call sign as "PWPA" whilst the NODC has determined the correct call sign is "PWAP". The data files contained the Ship Name "furg" (Call Sign "0000") which the NODC was unable to find in the ICES Platform Code Database.
