The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: | Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) Atlas: Louisiana, 2004 (NODC Accession Number 0013802) |
Abstract: | This data set comprises the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps for the shoreline of Louisiana. ESI data characterize estuarine environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats; sensitive biological resources; and human-use resources. This atlas was developed to be utilized within desktop GIS systems and contains GIS files and related D-base files. Associated files include MOSS (Multiple Overlay Statistical System) export files, .PDF maps, and detailed user guides and metadata. The biological data were compiled during 2002-2003. The currentness dates for these data range from 1960 to 2001 and are documented in the included metadata record. |

Supplementary information: | ESI MAPS SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR NAVIGATION. Original data was received as a DVD product from NOS Office of Response and Restoration, Seattle. DATA SET CREDIT: This project was supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service, Office of Response and Restoration, Hazardous Materials Response Division, Seattle, Washington, in cooperation with Minerals Management Service (MMS), New Orleans, Louisiana; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Lafayette, Louisiana; The Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office (LOSCO), Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR), Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Note that the ESI database should not be used to the exclusion of other pertinent data or information held by state or federal agencies or other organizations. Likewise, information contained in the database cannot be used in place of consultations with environmental, natural resource, and cultural resource agencies, or in place of field surveys. Recognize that the information contained in the ESI database represents known concentration areas or occurrences of natural, cultural, and human-use resources, but does not necessarily represent the full distribution or range of each species or resource. This is particularly important to recognize when considering potential impacts to protected resources, such as endangered species, wetlands, etc. Acknowledgment of the originators, publishers, contributors, and sources listed would be appreciated in products derived from these data. Additional ESI Atlases for other regions of the U.S. have been archived at the NODC. |
