The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) Atlas: Prince William Sound, Alaska, April 2001, Volume 1 and 2 (NODC Accession Number 0019218)
Abstract: This data set comprises the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) data for Prince William Sound, Alaska. ESI data characterize estuarine environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. This data set contains hydrology data, shoreline type, and data files (layer themes) for birds, nesting sites, fish, marine mammals, and invertebrates.

The ESI data were collected, mapped, and digitized to provide environmental data for oil spill planning and response. The Clean Water Act with amendments by the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 requires response plans for immediate and effective protection of sensitive resources.

MAPS ARE NOT TO BE USED FOR NAVIGATIONAL PURPOSES. This ESI Atlas Prince William Sound Geographic Systems Data Volumes 1 and 2 contain geographic shape files (ArcView project and supporting shape and .dbf files) of the locale and identified sensitive areas and biota. Accompanying detailed Adobe Acrobat .PDF ESI maps, photos, extensive metadata, a user guide, and files in MOSS (Map Overlay and Statistical System) format are also provided. Biological and geographical data utilized in this atlas date from 1952 to 1999, data were compiled 2000-2001.
