The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: Wind wave spectra data from moored current meter and bottle casts in the Gulf of Mexico as part of the Brine Disposal project, 26 July 1978 - 21 May 1979 (NODC Accession 8000225)
Abstract: Wind wave spectra data were collected using moored current meter and moored buoy casts in the Gulf of Mexico from September 22, 1978 to May 21, 1979. Data were submitted by National Ocean Service (NOS) as part of the Brine Disposal project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Wind Wave Spectra Data (F191) format. Full wind wave spectra descriptions are available at http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f191.html.

The F191 format is used to report meteorological data and ocean wave spectra data from NDBO. The format contains seven data record types to: 1) Identify the buoy for position, duration, rate of sampling and heading. 2) Identify the meteorological parameters (temperature, pressure, weather, solar radiation, and surface waves). 3) Report time series frequency, density and resolution of waves. Each record is 120 characters in length, sorted by station and record type. The first nine columns for all records are to be used for file type (columns 1-3) and file identifier (column 4-9). The file identifier, to be assigned by the originator, is an unique originator id for each data submission. After submission, the NODC reassigns to this field an unique NODC identifier for internal use.

Supplementary information: Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database
maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The
design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content
Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information
accurately represents all available information from the legacy database
at the time that this description was created. However, proper
attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or
collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact
mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this
uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the
Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, the NODC reviews metadata for all
accessions on an ongoing basis.
