The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

| Supplementary information: | The publication(s) listed below are related to the data collection and are available from the NOAA Central Library: John G. Bruce, 1987 XBT Observations between 10 Degree N - 10 Degree S in the Atlantic from Ships-of-Opportunity, Complemented by AXBT Surveys. Woods Hole, Mass.: Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, 1987. (NOAA Library catalog link, last accessed on 14 January 2009 at XBT observations between 10 degee N - 10 degreee S in the Atlantic from ships-of-opportunity, complemented by AXBT surveys). Philip A. Mele, 1985 Report of XBT Data From Four SEQUAL Cruises 1983 -1984 LDGO-85-2,Lamont Doherty Geological Observatory of Columbia University, Palisades, New York, 1985. (NOAA Library catalog link, last accessed on 15 January 2009 at Library needs to catalog). These data files are in NODC UBT format. This format is described at http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html and the codes used in this format are listed at http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.txt. Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, the NODC reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
