The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. | Title: | CURRENT - DIRECTION and Other Data from MULTIPLE SHIPS From World-Wide Distribution from 1894-01-01 to 1993-12-31 (NCEI Accession 9400068) |
| Abstract: | SCUDS (Surface CUrrent Data Summary) Data from Robert Rushton collected between 1894 and 1993 was submitted by Richard Enkoji of NAVOCEANO (US Naval Oceanographic Office, Bay St. Louis, MS) via File Transfer Protocol. Data are contained in 35 files; a READ.ME and a format file are also included. Each record contains: latitude (+ N, - S), longitude (+ E, - W), month, year, day, speed in knots, direction in degrees true, and a source code identifying the principal investigator (US, Dutch, Japanese, British, French, and/or GEK data). Data were collected from the late 1800's to 1993 world-wide. General location and record count for the files are: sfc1 60N-90N, 180W-180E 2757 records (January 1900 - 8/4/1986) sfc2 30N-60N, 180W-100W 164,406 records (9/16/1896 - 11/14/1988) sfc3 30N-60N, 100W-30W 147,346 records (4/5/1899 - 4/30/1987) Jan-Apr sfc4 30N-60N, 100W-30W 104,474 records (5/2/1899 - 6/27/1987) May-June sfc5 30N-60N, 100W-30W 151,398 records (July 1900 - 8/30/1987) Jul-Aug sfc6 30N-60N, 100W-30W 177,475 records (Sept 1900 - 10/23/1987) Sep-Dec sfc7 30N-60N, 30W-100E 149,500 records (Jan 1900 - 4/29/1987) Jan-April sfc8 30N-60N, 30W-100E 187,566 records (7/2/1899 - 8/28/1987) May-Aug. |

| Supplementary information: | Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
