The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. Title: Cruise SQ87 of the Coastal Transition Zone (CTZ) Program: hydrographic, productivity, and CTD data from NEW HORIZON in the NE Pacific from 1987-04-28 to 1987-05-23 (NCEI Accession 9700099)
Abstract: Phytoplankton, hydrographic, and other data were collected from bottle and CTD casts in the NE Pacific Ocean (limit-180) from the New Horizon and other platforms from April 28, 1987 to May 23, 1987. Data were collected by the Marine Life Research Group, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, during Cruise SQ87 of the Coastal Transition Zone (CTZ) Program. Data include profiles of temperature, salinity, and chlorophyll concentrations. CTD data is in NODC's C022 format.

The Low-resolution CTD (C022) dataset was primarily a compressed version of physical oceanographic data collected using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperatue-depth) sensors. Prior to July 1994, NODC created a ''compressed'' or low-resolution version of each cast by picking off data values at selected depth levels after processing original high-resolution CTD/STD data. A small amount (about 5%) of the Low-resolution CTD/STD data were originally reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and were processed and stored in the same format as the Nansen data. Cruise information, position, date and time are reported for each station (C100) data. The data for each station includes measurements taken at observed depth levels, but also may include data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
