Vertical water temperature observational data for one location in the central basin of Lake Superior from August 2020 through May 2021. This mooring was located approximately 46 miles north of Rock River, Michigan. Vertical water temperature observations were collected at 23 depths, the maximum depth of this mooring location was 202 m. The temperature measurements were collected continuously during this time period with an accuracy of ±0.002 °C. Note, there are two files for the 2020-2021 observations, including 1 hour and 10 minute time intervals.

Purpose These temperature data were collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (NOAA-GLERL). Temperature measurements collected at high resolution in both time and vertical space are critical to 1) assess inter-annual variability of the thermal structure of the Great Lakes; 2) test three-dimensional model parameterization; 3) understand vertical mixing processes; and 4) to aid in interpreting biological and other environmental data.
