CTD and Water Chemistry data of the Eastern Pacific Redox Experiment of May - June 2000 (NCEI Accession 0000833)

browse graphicPreview graphic
The Eastern Pacific Redox Experiment (EPREX) took place 24 May to 28 June 2000 on the R/V Roger Revelle. The first station was at the Hawaii Ocean Time Series "station ALOHA", 60 miles north of Oahu, Hawaii. The remaining five stations were spread along roughly 15N from 150W to 98W, near the Mexican coast. In addition to CTD data, various water chemistry parameters were acquired over multiple casts at each station down to about 2000 meters.

Supplemental Information
EPREX, the Eastern Pacific Redox Experiment, May - June 2000. A west -to-east transect from the oligotrophic, oxygen-rich waters of the subtropical North Pacific near Hawaii to the highly-productive, oxygen-poor waters of the eastern tropical North Pacific near Mexico. Water samples were collected along the transect to establish concentration profiles of oxygen, ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, and nitrous oxide and dual stable isotope profiles of nitrous oxide. This will allow identification of mechanisms of nitrous oxide production under differ biogeochemical regimes, and evaluation of the significance of a shallow oceanic source to the global tropospheric budget of nitrous oxide.
Purpose The goal of EPREX was to determine the relative importance of each mechanism of nitrous oxide production across a range of biogeochemical conditions.
