SAMOS project underway oceanographic and quality-controlled meteorological data collected aboard the NANCY FOSTER from 2014-03-04 to 2014-03-31 (NCEI Accession 0118428)

The data logging system on the NANCY FOSTER recorded underway oceanographic and meteorological data from various instruments while cruising in the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean from 2014-03-04 to 2014-03-31. During this period, as part of the Shipboard Automated Meteorological and Oceanographic System (SAMOS) project, the data logging system sent the data daily via e-mail to Florida State University (FSU), where the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies (COAPS) quality-controlled (QCed) the meteorological data. COAPS submitted four versions of the data to the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC): the original data e-mailed by the data logging system, first-level (automatically and merged) QCed data, and second-level (visually) QCed data. NODC Accession 0118428 contains all these data.

  • 2015-04-22T00:00:00 - NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.
