Briefly, samples were collected using glass syringe, Teflon tubing with stainless steel filter unit (0.7 µm Whatman GF/F, pre-combustedfor >4h at 450 degrees C); Samples transferred to pre-combusted 10 mL glass ampules, flame -sealed and stored at 4 degrees C in dark; DOC/TDN analysed by HTCO (Shimadzu TOC-5000A), chemiluminescence (Antek 7000) respectively. NO3- and NO2- analysed by standard colorimetric methods.CDOM spectra collected using double beam UV-visible spectrophotometer (Shimadzu, model UV 240); Daily blanks and analysis of Deep Sargasso seawater reference (44.0±1.5μmol/L); These data were collected as part of a P-addition experiment over a 4x4 km patch of surface ocean (European Commission CYCLOPS project); The data included in this submission correspond only to control sites outside of the perturbed patch (identified by simultaneous addition/mapping of SF6); The P addition, stimulated complex trophic interactions at "IN PATCH" stations which are therefore excluded; The wider P addition experiment and results are described in Thingstad et al. 2005 (https://science.sciencemag.org/content/309/5737/1068); Additional funding for the CDOM measurements and photochemical work was obtained from the UK Natural Environment Reaserch Council https://doi.org/10.5194/bg-3-439-2006
