Processing Steps
  • Parameter or Variable: Multi Sensor Core Logger Data (measured); Units: Mixed; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: Geotek MSCL 7.9; Sampling and Analyzing Method: Unsplit core sections were run through a Geotek Multi Sensor Core Logger to determine P wave amplitude, P wave velocity, Density, Magnetic Susceptibility, Impedance, Resistivity and calculated Fractional Porosity; Data Quality Method: MSCL was calibrated using calibration standards. For further details see GEOTEK MSCL manual at https://www.geotek.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/MSCL-manual-1-Nov-16.pdf.
  • Parameter or Variable: Sediment Calcium Carbonate Contents (measured); Units: percent; Observation Category: laboratory analysis; Sampling Instrument: CM5017 CO2 coulometer; Sampling and Analyzing Method: bulk sedimentary CaCO3 content of samples was measured at the University of Florida at the Department of Geological Sciences. Total inorganic carbon was first measured coulometrically using a UIC 5017 CO2 coulometer coupled with an AutoMate automated carbonate preparation device. Approximately 15 mg of sample was weighed into septum top tubes and placed into the AutoMate carousel. A double needle assembly was used to purge the sample vial of atmospheric gas using CO2-free nitrogen carrier gas. Acid was then injected into the sample vial and evolved CO2 was carried through a silver nitrate scrubber to the coulometer where total C as CO2 is measured.; Data Quality Method: Pure CaCO3 standards and blanks were run every 17 samples..
