Physical, meteorological, and biological data collected from non-federal stations assembled by the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS)
This dataset contains physical, meteorological and geochemical data, collected at moorings located in Puget Sound, WA and along the Washington and Oregon coasts. The datasets include the ORCA moorings in Puget Sound, the Cha’ba coastal moorings along the Washington shelf.
The ORCA moorings are buoy platforms taking hydrographic profiles at fixed locations, while also monitoring meteorological conditions. There are currently six (6) moorings located in Puget Sound and Hood Canal. The hydrographic sensors measure temperature, conductivity, pressure, dissolved oxygen concentrations, and chlorophyll and turbidity. The meteorological stations measure barometric pressure, air temperature and dew point temperature, and wind speed and direction. The hydrographic profiles are taken with a target minimum frequency of once per day, with frequency increasing as conditions allow. The meteorological stations measure at one minute intervals. The Northwest Environmental Moorings (NWEM) Group, located at the Applied Physics Lab at the University of Washington, collected the data and provided the data to NANOOS.
The Cha’ba and NEMO moorings are located on the Washington shelf, in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. The moorings include a mix of fixed-depth loggers, crawling profilers, and acoustic doppler current profilers. Hydrographic measurements include temperature, conductivity, pressure, dissolved oxygen concentrations, chlorophyll and turbidity, and water velocity. Meteorological measurements include barometric pressure, air temperature and dew point temperature, and wind speed and direction. The Northwest Environmental Moorings (NWEM) Group, located at the Applied Physics Lab at the University of Washington, collected the data and provided the data to NANOOS.
The data files are in netCDF format, following the Climate and Forecast metadata convention (CF) and the Attribute Convention for Data Discovery (ACDD).

| Supplemental Information | The IOOS vocabulary of oceanographic and meteorological parameters is at http://mmisw.org/ont/ioos/parameter. The mapping of this vocabulary to the CF standard names vocabulary is at http://mmisw.org/ont/ioos/map_ioos_cf. The netCDF data files in the Accession use both vocabularies. |
