From December 11–15, 2023, the National Centers for Environmental Information’s (NCEI) scientists and educators will be hosting sessions and town halls as well as presenting talks and posters that explore “Wide. Open. Science.” at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Meeting 2023, the world’s largest annual science conference. In keeping with the theme of opening science up to everyone, AGU is offering both in-person and virtual attendance for the third year in a row. Attendees will be able to unite with 100+ countries and 25,000+ participants from the Earth and space sciences community.

How to Attend

AGU23 will be hosted in San Francisco this year at the George R. Moscone Convention Center. In addition to in-person attendance, the event will also provide resources for online attendance and participation—select keynote speakers, learning workshops, town halls, and all of the online poster sessions will be taking place from January 20–25, 2024.

As one of AGU’s objectives is to create an inclusive and accessible environment, they are including numerous accommodations, such as: the availability of closed captioning at most sessions, childcare for attendees, a travel grants program for students, and online accessibility for those who are unable to attend in person.

AGU continues to build towards a sustainable future by fostering a “community of scientists, students, journalists, policymakers, educators, and organizations who are working toward a world where scientific discovery leads to scientific solutions.” From global change to space weather, there’s a subject for every person to engage in.

NCEI at AGU

Join NCEI scientists as they share some of their latest research, products, and services during the 2023 hybrid AGU23 Meeting. At Tuesday’s Town Hall on December 12, 2023, Deke Arndt, the Director of NCEI, will be having a conversation on how the agency can improve and “Help Build a Better NOAA NCEI”.
