NCEI will be performing an extensive operating system upgrade beginning August 22. This upgrade will take several weeks to complete. During this time, access to many datasets, products and services will be temporarily interrupted.
Affected Products as of August 29
- The Global Hourly - Integrated Surface Daily (ISD) reached end of life at end of life on August 29, and will receive no further updates. ISD is being replaced by the Global Historical Climatology Network hourly (GHCNh).
- Local Climatological Data, version 1 (LCDv1) reached end of life August 29, and will receive no further updates. LCDv1 is being replaced by LCDv2, which is derived from GHCNh.
- Global Summary of the Day (GSOD) reached end of life on August 29, and will receive no further updates. GSOD is being replaced by the Synoptic Summary of the Day (SSOD), which is in development
- The Image and Publications System (IPS) is being decommissioned on August 29. New access points for publications will be available through the NCEI weather and climate dataset search tool. The Weather and Climate Publications page includes the new download and order links for many popular publications.
Other datasets may still experience outages and limited availability, including:
- Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS) Data
- Service Records Retention System (SRRS)
- NEXRAD Radar Data
- Weather and Climate Model Data
