The Data DOI Task Force was established at the August 2013 V-DAT Business Meeting in Merida, Mexico to create measurable output indicators for the working group. Referencing geomagnetic data products improves data recognition for data production, data management, and data archive activities implemented by observers, providers, and data centers.
Minting DOI (Digital Object Identifiers) to the geomagnetic data products makes it possible to reference them in scientific articles. This task force discusses issues related to DOI-minting for geomagnetic data products and shares the results with the WG V-DAT members.
After a preliminary discussion by the original members for two years, the Task Force was reorganized with new members and continues the activity.
Reports
- "Present Status of DOI-minting to Geomagnetic Data/Indices" | August 2017
- "Present Status of Data Publication and Data Citation of Geomagnetic Data/Indices" | July 2019
- Present Status of Data Publication and Data Citation of Geomagnetic Data/Indices" | August 2021
Benefits of DOI-Minting
- Data providers can:
- Include necessary information about data (i.e., metadata) on their landing pages, and reduce the labor needed to respond to user inquiries.
- Gain professional recognition and awards for their published data in the same way that the would for traditional publications
- Data centers can receive proper credit for their work, such as creating and formatting data, managing the database, and adding new values to data through secondary processing.
